Our History
The Measley Family has been growing only blueberries since 1939.Originally dubbed “C&E”—after Carlton Sr. and his mother, Eva—Piney Hollow Farm began as a modest agricultural venture and has grown over almost nine decades into a labor of love, family, and community.The property, located on Piney Hollow Road, was originally purchased in the 1930s from a man in England who sent a proxy from Washington, D.C., to complete the sale. Alongside his father, Horace, Carlton Sr. cleared the land and planted blueberries—not knowing it would one day become the identity of the beautiful town of Hammonton, New Jersey. Those early days laid the foundation for what would become generations of hard work, family tradition, and deep roots in South Jersey agriculture.Over the years, Carlton Sr.’s children and grandchildren all spent their summers working in the packing house and fields. Carlton himself rode his tractor until the age of 89, before passing the farm to his son, Carlton “Skip” Measley. Skip continues to run the farm with his daughters, Heather Measley D’Amico and Mandee Measley, who also grew up right here among the rows of blueberries. And now, Carlton’s great-grandchildren, David and Gianna, are growing up surrounded by the same fields, traditions, and values their ancestors began over eight decades ago.While we’ve kept up with the ever-changing industry, at heart we remain an old-fashioned farm. In addition to shipping berries across the country, we welcome loyal customers from near and far each summer for a “pick-your-own” experience or to purchase freshly picked berries by the pound. Our blueberries are also sold in grocery stores, local produce stands, restaurants, and used by those who make wine, jelly, jam, cookies, and other products featuring our sweet blues.We hear time and time again, “Your berries were the best we had all season,” and we could not be more proud to represent the Blueberry Capital of the World—the heart of New Jersey.
